Sun Bets Review
For UK residents the Sun probably needs little introduction. The famous – or notorious depending on your viewpoint – tabloid newspaper has been a staple of British culture since the 70s, bringing breasts, bingo and bile to breakfast tables in probably equal measure.
Whilst sport has been a hugely popular topic with Sun readers, it’s not been known for any bookmaking prowess itself, so has turned to Aussie gambling giant Tabcorp to power its online sportsbook. Tabcorp is a well respected betting and entertainment business that was founded in 1994, and its UK subsidiary is under the covers at Sun Bets operating the Currant Bun’s sportsbook service under the strict auspices of a UK Gambling Commission licence.

Layout & Usability
Now we could be cheeky and suggest that Sun Bets is much like the reputation of the Sun newspaper’s readers – very simple – but we’re nice guys and so we’ll avoid that comparison. What we will say is that Sun Bets is a pretty Plain Jane affair when its presentation is compared to many online sportsbooks, however that could be its strength. Checking its pop-put Menu bar you’ll find it’s home to far more sports and markets than at first might appear, but it plays to the favourite flutters of its target audience with its main ribbon of options. It gives the site a stripped back feel, and that might be just what the doctor ordered if you find sites like William Hill and Bet365 a little overwhelming as a new customer.
Naturally Sun Bets covers both forthcoming and in-play events with easy access to all offered markets for each listing. With its in-play bets we would like to have seen more obvious indicators for how bets had changed when updated – changes don’t show if it’s moved the previous odds up or down as many rival sites do – but it’s not a deal breaking issue. Compiling your bet slip is nicely handled through clicking odds on and off to add or subtract the related offer to your slip, and the overall ease of use is easily on a par with the best sites we’ve reviewed.
Simplicity is undoubtedly the key to Sun Bets, so you won’t find all the extras more fully featured sites do, so tools like elaborate bet calculators and live streaming feeds of events or other commentary are absent, however it does a perfectly adequate job of quickly getting you into the markets you fancy and rustling up the bet slip of your dreams.
Mobile & Tablet
Sun Bets offers an iOS app and an Android app but it’s just as easy to play on your Smartphone’s browser. You can watch your favourite sports live on iPhone, iPad & Android.
Sun Bets offers a huge range of deposit and withdrawal options.
Sun Bets offers excellent 24/7 support, 7 days a week. Sun Bets uses Chat, Email, Web Message, Phone and Post.
If you’re looking for exquisite simplicity then it could well be that Sun Bets puts other online sportsbooks in the shade. It keeps things to the essentials and unless you can’t live without the in-depth supporting features that more complex sites like those of famous bookmaking brands like Coral and Paddy Power pack in (or you’re a Liverpool fan who’ll have nothing to do with the Sun) its no-mucking-about layout has lots to like.
